Trevor Corser: 40 Years a Leach Potter

An exhibition of work by Trevor Corser

Corser began work for Bernard Leach in 1966, packing pots for transit and mixing clay. Over the years he went on to learn the skilled craft of a production potter, making the Pottery?s iconic standard ware and becoming one of the last to remain here until the Pottery?s closure in 2005. Having studied under Bernard Leach, he worked for many years alongside William Marshall and himself became mentor to subsequent Leach apprentice potters. Known for his uncomplicated, functional pots and distinctive glazes, Corser grew to be an acclaimed studio potter in his own right and spent his life making pots firmly within the Leach tradition, many of which are now found in collections all over the world.

That Continuous Thing: Artists and the Ceramics Studio, 1920 - Today

The ceramics studio has always been a place where tradition meets experimentation. Spanning 100 years, this exhibition explores the diverse forms, energies and locations that define the modern studio. Ranging from the rise of studio pottery in the 1910s to a number of new commissions by a young generation of UK-based artists, That Continuous Thing - a quote from the American artist Peter Voulkos - traces the changing shape of the ceramics studio over the last century

That Continuous Thing creates a series of very different galleries, which enhance the context in which particular contemporaries approached ceramics. During the course of the exhibition, Troy Town Art Pottery will be in residence at the Leach Pottery in St Ives.
